Hi,
signs like & / \ = are used in URLs and therefore might confuse the web client.
Also note that VDP shows locations of backuped up VMs like /Datacenters/DC-Name/Clustername/VM-Name.
Using the same delimiter as part of a VM or DC name will break things.
Or maybe the programmers didn't just feel like escaping special chars
