You can stop the rescan of the volumes during APD situation using the following command:

esxcfg-advcfg -s 1 /VMFS3/FailVolumeOpenIfAPD

This will help you get access to the Putty session post which you can troubleshoot the issue and Mask the Path if required. I know this is late but you can use this command in future if you hit the issue again.
