Hello,
I am a software developer who uses VM Workstation to emulate clients machines, servers, sharepoint etc. to deploy code to and test before uploading. I use a Dell M6600 with 16 gigs ram running win7 Ult.
Recently the motherboard went out but I was able to access the HD and back everything up including my VM's. After the motherboard was replaced the host OS win7 ult. would not boot. Tech. who did mboard said I had to reinstall which I did and everything is running and GTG on the host again.
I installed VM wkstn 9 (what I was using before) copied the vm's back to host and opened them. The first vm "resumed" probably as it was running when mboard died. The resume worked except that shortcuts etc. would not open and anything I tried to do crashed. So I thought a reboot might be in order.
Well after reboot it loads but it "APPEARS" I have no video as the screen is blank except the mouse which you can move around just fine.
If you boot into safe mode you get video but everything (chars) is garbled code like squares, slashes, circles etc. I can login as I have that screen pretty much memorized and get to the desktop..again only in safe mode.
I am assuming the new motherboard has really thrown the VM for a loop. I don't mind creating a new vm and migrating but I was hoping there might be something I could do to my old one to get it a bit more functional otherwise the migration is going to be very difficult.
TIA
JB
