I am having a hard time understanding some situations in the environment using View 6 and App volume 2.9.
I would like to help those who have tried app volume
Current Status
1. The user program installation after appstack is connected is initialized when the virtual machine is rebooted.
2. To solve this problem due to the installation program disappearing when rebooting, we applied the registry of "CleanSystemWritable" described in 2.9 version user manual.
The installed programs remain, but there is a lot of content stored on the local disk, so there is no space on the local disk.
(Due to the lack of storage capacity, the disk size of the user VM is limited to 40G, and when the basic setting is completed, about 10G of free space is left. After applying appvolume registry over a week, SVROOT folder of about 8G is created.)
3. I tried to enable Writable volume (uia only). When I used it alone, the installation state of the program was saved and it seemed to be no problem.
However, while appstack was being added, the user's program was not saved again.
Questioning
1. By default, when using appstack in a desktop environment, is it normal to have the user installation program removed ???
2. Can I use Writable Volume and appstack at the same time?
3. If it is available, please explain how to use it at the same time without initializing the user installation program.
Thank you for reading my article. I would like to ask a lot of advice on troubleshooting.
Thanks. I added a source MASQ rule for the subnet(s) on the USG and internet access came up.
Thanks for the help.
VMware Cloud Foundation 2.1.1 only supports self-signed certificates. We are planning support for enterprise certificates for a future release. NealeC's comments apply.
People,
Can anyone here please assist me in modifying the script below to include the vSphere Editionand ESXi image version?
Get-VMHost | Select-object @{N="HostName";E={ $_ | Get-VMHostNetwork | select -ExpandProperty Hostname}}, @{N="IPAddress"; E={($_ | Get-VMHostNetwork).VirtualNic | Where-Object {$_.ManagementTrafficEnabled} | Select-Object -ExpandProperty IP}}, Manufacturer, Model, ProcessorType, @{N="BIOS version";E={$_.ExtensionData.Hardware.BiosInfo.BiosVersion}}| Export-Csv C:\RESULT\ESXi-Reports.csv
and
foreach($esxcli in Get-VMHost | Get-EsxCli -V2){ $esxcli.hardware.platform.get.Invoke() | Select @{N='VMHost';E={$esxcli.VMHost.Name}},VendorName,ProductName,SerialNumber }
Thanks in advance.
So what does the remarked lines are for:
@{N="Fnicvendor";E={$esxcli.software.vib.list() | ? {$_.Name -match ".*$($hba.hbadriver).*"} | Select -First 1 -Expand Vendor}},
@{N="Enicvendor";E={$esxcli.software.vib.list() | ? {$_.Name -match ".net.*"} | Select -First 1 -Expand Vendor}},
@{N="Enicvendor";E={$esxcli.network.nic.list() | where {$vmnic.name -eq $_.vmnic1} | select -First 1 -ExpandProperty Description }}
Hi Mike,
How can we persist user based start menu customization across the sessions in floating pools desktop?
for example: user-1 is interested to place his/her interested application short-cut in start menu
I am using UEM 9.1
App volumes 2.11
Windows-10 1607
floating pools
LucD ,
Why is that the result of the script above is just the number 10 instead of the server name ?

Dear Vivath, have you got the answer for this topic?
I need this information as well since I got trouble when one of VM runs IDM and made hundreds of concurrent connection to download many files at the same time. I don't want to limit the bandwidth, but do really want to know if its possible to limit "concurrent connection" using ESXi.
I have read the manual given (https://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere6/r60/vsphere-60-configuration-maximums.pdf ), but it only said about: "Concurrent remote console connections to a virtual machine". I am not native English speaker and its possible that i missed something which is already there. It would be great if anyone can be kind to let me know where is it in the subject.
I do really really appreciate if anyone can help me out in this matter
Thank you so much
Cool, many thanks for the quick reply.
Yes it works.
Why does the ConsoleGatewayand ConsoleGatewayDeviceproperty is always blank ?
It is interesting! Mine was set to OSX Server 10.6 and believe me - I did not choose then when installing. I have set it to the correct version and 'Reinstall VMWare Tools now selects the correct ISO. So there's a bug there - but in saving the right OS version in some cases on install.
Thanks,
Paul
What about combining the PowerShell from this website: https://4sysops.com/archives/map-vmware-virtual-disks-and-windows-drive-volumes-with-a-powershell-script/

Hello
when looking at the summary tab of a host on vsphere and ESXI it shows 0 for CPU and memory usage.
We have restarted the agents, rebooted the host, the vcenter and still the same.
from our monitoring system we got values that are matching what we see in the VMs.
I saw a bug for version 5.1 but nothing like that on version 6.
Anyone else faced this problem?
thanks
Hi folks, I’ve a question. I have a friend who is a Graphic Designer he wants to buy two-server and allocate these resources of these two-server into a single VM so he can render freely consuming his servers Is there’s a solution for that or that is an impossible thing?
Yup, we know he can buy a dedicated server but just in case he wants to do so technically is that allowed
Many thanks in Advance ..
Thanks LuCD for quick response as always .
Here I was don't want to do complete VM migration from one host to another. I just want to check or do checklist if vMotion is working in my infra or not.
Some times we get vMotion errors due to unknown reasons. To overcome such vMotion issues as a precautionary measure want to do a checklist or test if vMotion is good or not. Something script could able to do vMotion functionality test and show result for the host vMotion works perfectly and also shows the host where vMotion have issues.
Thanks
I've updated to 8.5.6 that was released today and force restarted all the VMs. Except for one Windows Server 2012 VM, all other VMs (Windows 10, Centos) show black/blank screen.
Small update....
I ended up rolling back and updating again but left the default vcenter plugin that comes with vRO 7.2.
The xpath filter works with findAllForType()
For the other error with the exception about no return value, that is working properly too.
I also don't have constant freezing of the orchestrator client (maybe half the time I selected a workflow token and clicked the variables tab the program would freeze up)
As you correctly suggested the problem seems to be with the new plugin.
I still have one problem though:
Appliance is still in demo mode . When I try to change to vcenter mode for licensing, I get the following:
"Error! The specified license mode cannot be configured. Before licensing through vSphere, the Orchestrator should be registered to a configured vCenter Server instance."
However when I run the workflow "List the vCenter Orchestrator extensions on vCenter Server" I do see it as registered.
Reboot of vcenter required?? Unregister/register against the PSC instead of legacy mode?
Ben, did you want a breakdown by VC as well?
As usual Luc is correct, but if you wanted a breakdown you could modify like this:
### get vm counts
$vc=(Get-VMHost | Get-VM | where-object {$_.PowerState -eq "PoweredOn"}).Count
write-host "$array[$count] - $vc"
$sum+=$vc
Hi Gimmely,
Thank-you for trying to help
My VMware workstation (v11) is installed C:\u\SysTools\VMWare
and there are various VMs, the error happens with them all, so I think it must be a common factor, aka the VMware workstation itself &/or registry entries. But one of the locations is:
I:\VM3_Windows 7 (64-bit)
The error I get when I try & unistall (via running this installer & selecting "remove") is:
and when I attempt restore a snapshot (but very similar if I try & take a fresh snapshot) is
Which log file are you referring to?
